An Analysis of Migration Trends of Lao Migrants for Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Two Selected Provinces: Savannakhet and Xayaboury (Lao)
The research report will present the findings from the case study in the two selected provinces – Savannakhet and Xayaboury – to help readers have a better understanding of the migration trends of Lao migrants, as well as any increased drivers of vulnerability that may change the trafficking landscape in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic or increase Laotians’ susceptibility to exploitation and trafficking. The research will provide evidence for policymakers and service providers in identifying solutions on prevention, as well as support such as urgent response strategy to migration issues and challenges in the short, medium and long term.
The report is divided into six sections: (a) Lao People’s Democratic Republic’s migration profile; (b) push and pull factors for migration in Lao People’s Democratic Republic; (c) irregular migration and trafficking in persons; (d) impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the migration landscape; (e) current programme and plan to address the impacts; and (f) conclusion and recommendations.
