Policy Analysis on Migration, Environment and Climate Change: Tajikistan

Over the last decade, there has been a rise in global awareness of human mobility in the context of climate change and environmental degradation. For both policy and cooperation on climate and human mobility, concern remains with creating conditions that enable people to have the option to safely stay, to leverage the opportunities of migration, and to avert, minimize and address displacement and related protection needs. To support the Government of Tajikistan in addressing these concerns, this policy analysis maps the migration, environment and climate change nexus in national policies, laws and strategies. The report’s recommendations support the Government of Tajikistan’s adherence to the recommendations set forth by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Task Force on Displacement, which calls for integrated approaches to avert, minimize and address displacement related to the adverse impacts of climate change. The recommendations also support the integration of migration considerations in relevant national frameworks and action to address migration-related issues.
