Extended Migration Profile of the Republic of Moldova 2009 - 2014

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission to Moldova presents the fourth edition of the Extended Migration Profile (EMP) of the Republic of Moldova for 2009–2014. This report was edited and published under the project “Supporting the implementation of the migration and development component of the EU–Moldova Mobility Partnership and harnessing its benefits for the residents of the Transnistria Region of the Republic of Moldova”, which is implemented by IOM and funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova.

The analytical report represents a continuation of a complex exercise initiated in 2010 through the development of the first edition of the EMP of the Republic of Moldova, which covered a detailed analysis of migration data for 2005–2010. The second edition of the EMP analytical report covered the period from 2007 to 2012, and the third edition covered 2008–2013.

This fourth edition of the analytical report covers the years 2009–2014, and was developed by the Bureau for Migration and Asylum (BMA) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of IOM Moldova. Through Government Decision No. 634 (dated 24 August 2012) on approving the List of Indicators and the Template of the Extended Migration Profile of the Republic of Moldova, the BMA was designated as the institution responsible for producing the EMP.

This analytical report follows the EMP template approved by Government Decision No. 634 and covers four basic blocks of information and analysis, namely: migration trends (part A of the report); impact of migration (part B); migration management framework (part C); and key findings, policies’ implications and recommendations (part D). It also presents statistical tables containing data on migration provided by the relevant institutions, in compliance with the List of Indicators approved by the aforementioned Government Decision.

The EMP is a country-owned tool developed in consultation with a wide number of government and non-government stakeholders to be used for enhancing policy coherence, evidence-based policymaking and mainstreaming migration into national development planning.
