Based on the limited data available, we know that gender affects migratory decisions, migratory experiences such as work opportunities and exposure to risks, and the development impact of migration, for example remittance flows. As explained in this Data Bulletin, further data are essential for fully understanding the role of gender in shaping international migration and the specific needs of migrants, in particular of migrant women and girls. Without such data the design and implementation of effective policies to implement the Global Compact for Migration risks being undermined.
