The annual report provides an overview of migration and asylum-related developments and debates in Austria in the period from January to December 2023. As the reports describes, throughout the year, covering the shortage of labour and skilled workers was a cross-governmental priority, leading to a number of developments in the area of regular migration and in the area of integration. Against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Ukraine, there were some developments regarding the temporary protection of displaced persons, with the focus here also being on labour market integration as the report indicates. Concurrently, there was a focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation – with both third countries and European Union Member States – and on measures preventing irregular migration.
