IOM Nigeria Newsletter - April 2013

This newsletter highlights some of the activities carried out under the European Union funded project “Promoting Better Management of Migration in Nigeria,” which aims to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to manage migration in order to maximize its development potential.  



This quarter’s newsletter   covers the Diaspora Engagement workshop held in Abuja, Nigeria in February 2013. This workshop created a platform for IOM and key representatives of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies working on Diaspora related issues to discuss issues such as the role of banks in Diaspora remittance transfers and investment, Diaspora bonds, Capital market investments and Best practices and applications.



It also covers IOM’s advocacy workshop at the Nigerian National Assembly which was also held in February 2013 and the role of government in engaging Diaspora for effective development was discussed in detail and best practices were shared by Charles Kwenin, IOM’s Senior Regional Adviser for sub-Saharan Africa.



The newsletter further highlights the work of the Immigration and Border Management team in Nigeria under the European Union funded project  “Promoting Better Management of Migration in Nigeria” and another project funded by the Swiss Federal Office on Migration.
