Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) are an integral part of any emergency response. Research knowledge is a fundamental factor in the design and implementation of effective MHPSS programmes. Therefore, research in all its forms, is a key to informed MHPSS emergency responses. Recommendations for Conducting Ethical Mental Health and Psychosocial Research in Emergency Settings provides an overview of principles, practices and examples to support researches, practitioners, managers, emergency officers and communities to implement MHPSS research in emergency settings that is ethical. This IASC‎ Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Reference Group publication, coordinated, edited and published by IOM and funded by the Italian Development Cooperation, stems from a widespread need to limit malpractices in the conduction of research with vulnerable groups resulting in stigmatization. The document provides a set of ground rules that would allow research to be effective, programme-bound, ethical and not harmful.
