Migration Trends in Selected Applicant Countries Volume IV - Romania: More 'Out' than 'In' at the crossroads between Europe and the Balkans
Accession to the EU is expected to bring about changes in migratory routes and destinations, as well as social changes in future member states. How will new migration trends affect society in these countries? How will countries characterized by emigration in the 90’s cope with rising immigration and the challenge of integrating migrants? How are governments planning to cope and what is expected after May 2004?
A major new IOM research project analyzing migration trends in six EU accession countries provides some of the answers. The project was managed by IOM Vienna and funded by the European Commission’s Directorate for Employment and Social Affairs.
